Uncaught SyntaxError message when using Add Comment form

Hi,

We have a Joomla 2.5 website which uses the Testimonials component, and everything has been working really well on it. However, we decided today to utilise the ability to allow site visitors to post to their own testimonial to the site & now have encountered a problem. When the user submits the form the site hangs, using the Chrome Console we are getting the message 'Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token <' but this is showing on line 1.

My guess is that there's some kind of jQuery conflict, is there any way of running the testimonials module in noconflict mode without having to hack the code?

Thanks,

Karen

Re: Uncaught SyntaxError message when using Add Comment form

Hello

The issue is caused by a php error generated when trying to send out the notification email for the comment. The error is for PHPMailer not being found. This is very strange, as the error is coming from within the Joomla code not the Freestyle code. Can you check that you are using the latest 2.5 version of Joomla please? If not can you try installing the full upgrade package to the latest version.

You should be able to avoid the problem by disabling the email notifications for the testimonials until we get this issue resolved.

Thanks

Re: Audit Message

Hi,

I can confirm that the site is using 2.5.28, and having switched off the email notifications the form is working correctly.

Can you give any indication on an eta for a fix for this, so I can let our client know?

Thanks,

Karen

Re: Uncaught SyntaxError message when using Add Comment form

Hello

Sorry for the delays, im away on holiday at the moment, so a bit restricted in what I have available to me with regards to creating new versions and test server access.

Ive taken a look through the code and the phpmailer class should be included automatically by the joomla core and for some reason is not. This leads me to think there may be some files missing on your joomla install. Can you check that the libraries\phpmailer folder is present on your site?

Also, can you try sending a password reset email from your site and checking if any emails are working or not?

Thanks

Re: Audit Message

Hi Adam,

It looks like you're onto something here. I've just created a new user on the system & although the account was created I ended up with a white screen and so far no email. I can confirm that the phpmailer folder does exist on the server, however the phpmailer.php file itself is showing as 0 bytes. I'll set up a fresh install of 2.5 on my local server & upload a copy of the file, hopefully that will fix the issue.

Thanks for all your help,

Karen

Hello

That makes sense, a blank file would cause the issue shown. Let me know if you have any further issues.

Thanks

Re: Uncaught SyntaxError message when using Add Comment form

Just a quick note, it may be worth doing a search on your site just to ensure that there isnt any other 0 byte files that could cause issues at a later point.

Thanks

Re: Audit Message

Hi Adam,

Well, it seems that we may have had a problem occur when we migrated the site from one server to another as a couple of other things went wrong with the site today. We've now managed to get a clean backup restored & have re-implemented the testimonials component. I noticed that the phpmailer.php file suddenly had size, and now everything is working properly.

Thanks for your advice, much appreciated.
