Freestyle Support Portal 1.8.7 Released


Freestyle Support 1.8.6 has a problem updating the database fields. Please upgrade to this version to solve any 1.8.6 database problems.

Freestyle Support now also supports Joomla 1.7 (as well as 1.5 and 1.6)

Joomla 1.7 Support


With Joomla 1.7 released, a new version of Freestyle Support is needed. We are still a couple of days away from having properly tested this, but for the moment, if you would like to use Joomla 1.7 with Freestyle Support, we have a fix should hopefully fix the problems we have found so far.

You can download the fix here

This file needs to be uploaded to your joomla install under components/com_fss/ overwriting the existing helper.php file

Joomla 1.6.2 issues

There are some major bugs in Joomla 1.6.2 which stop javascript working correctly on the Administration side of an install. This stops all of the admin section of Freestyle Support from working. Please avoid Joomla 1.6.2, and upgrade your sites to Joomla 1.6.3 to resolve this issue.

Freestyle Support Portal Version 1.8 finally here!

Freestyle Joomla are pleased to announce the release of version 1.8 of Freestyle Support Portal. There has been a long delay in the release of the next stable version of Freestyle Support Portal due to the large amount of features that have been requested, we apologise for this delay. However, as you can see from the list below we have added a large amount of new features.

New in Freestyle Support Portal version 1.8:

  • Support Joomla 1.6 and Joomla 1.5
  • Create support tickets directly from emails
  • Use joomla content plugins on KB articles, announcements, FAQs and glossary
  • Auto close support tickets after certain amount of time of with no activity (as an option)
  • Can now add tags when replying to a ticket, and search and filter tickets by the tags
  • Ticket activity logging in support tickets: logs when status changed etc, full ticket audit trail
  • Ability to group users together to form a company and share tickets
  • Customisable ticket reference numbers
  • Change order of custom fields in the ticket
  • Ticket locking when being edited by another user/member of staff

Several of our customers have requested features which we promised will be added to version 2.0 - some of these features have been brought forward to version 1.8, others will be added to version 1.9 which we are now working on already, and the remaining features promised for version 2.0 will be released in several months in version 2.0.

We very much hope that you will upgrade to the new version as we have worked very hard on these features. We are always willing to accept new feature requests and feedback from our customers.

Freestyle Support Portal v1.8 BETA version released

We have released version 1.8 beta 1 of Freestyle Support Portal.

This release support Joomla 1.6 as well as Joomla 1.5

This is a BETA release, as we do not have the same ammount of sites to test this on with Joomla 1.6, so please let us know how you get on installing this. Due to the large ammount of changes required for Joomla 1.6 support, I expect that some things may have been broken in Joomla 1.5 as well as things not working properly in 1.6. We have done a lot of testing on this, but without a large base of people to test it, cannot be sure of having solved any problems.

New in this release is the following:

  • Joomla 1.6 support
  • Ticket Tags - Allow a ticket to be tagged with your information to find tickets of a certain type
  • Handler Signatures - Automatically add a singature when a support handler replies to a ticket.
  • Ability to turn off the handler field display to user
  • Ability to turn off the priority information
  • EMail default address when no handler is assigned to the ticket
  • Optionally override sending email and name
  • Optionally override site title in sent email
  • Allow HTML code in ticket replies
  • BUG: Apostrophe (') in ticket subject causing issues
    Show users other tickets
  • Optionally lock support ticket while being edited (other handlers can only view the ticket, and not edit)
  • Search results tab for ticket search with count
  • Around 75 different bugs fixed
  • View tickets tags, attachements and lock status when listing tickets
  • Filter by tags in basic and advanced search
  • Dont allow user to change custom fields on a closed ticket

Hope this doesnt cause too many problem, please test this on a development site, and not straight onto your live sites.

Freestyle and Joomla 1.6

We are currently working on compatibility with Joomla 1.6 for Freestyle Support Portal. This should hopefully be available some time next week assuming things get fixed, as Freestyle Support 1.8. Joomla 1.6 has made a large amount of changes to how Freestyle Support is needed to be written, so hasn't been just a few simple changed as we had hoped.

V2 of Freestyle Support Portal is still in progress, but has ended up being a complete rewrite of all but the support system (all admin section, FAQs, KB, Announcements etc have been almost completely rewritten). As this is taking so long, we are bringing forward a large amount of the requested features from v2, and putting them in v1.8 of Freestyle Support Portal. Due to the high demand for Joomla 1.6 compatibility, not all of the features will make 1.8, and it is likely that we will create a 1.9 as well with the remainder of the requested features. We expect that 1.8 will be released towards the end of next week, and 1.9 towards the end of February. v2 should hopefully be arriving around the end of April, but 90% of the requested features have been moved into 1.8 or 1.9 so you should have access to them without having to wait months. Unfortunalty, one of our most requested features, Support ticket creation from an email account, will not be available untill 1.9 as we still have a lot of testing to do on this.

I sincerly apologise for the delays in getting the many great new features our users have suggested and requested released sooner than we have, but as part of restructuring our development process that is v2, a lot more work was required than first anticipated.

Regarding FAQs Lite and Testimonials Lite, there will be no Joomla 1.6 version available until v2 is released, at which point these 2 products will be back to being regularly maintained instead of being as they are now which is without updates for months at a time.
